PHN traditionally joins in the commemoration of the anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. Symbolic anchors of Fighting Poland will appear on the facades of the Warsaw properties owned by the PHN Group – on the tenement house at ul. Wierzbowa 9/11 and on the INTRACO skyscraper at ul. Stawki 2.

Starting this Saturday, on July 30, for three consecutive evenings, the insurgent anchor will feature on the facade of the historical building located at ul. Wierzbowa 9/11. The symbolic board will be displayed using video-mapping technology.

In addition, after dark on Monday, August 1, the Fighting Poland symbol will also shine on the facade of INTRACO at ul. Stawki 2. Insurgent anchors of about 20 meters in size are planned to be displayed on both sides of the skyscraper’s facade – north and south – using appropriately arranged lights at the top of the building.

August 1, 1944 is a special date in the memory of both the people of Warsaw and Poland as a whole. It was one of the most important and dramatic events in the history of the capital. Joining in the commemoration of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising is all the more important to us as the history of our company has been linked to Warsaw for decades. The Fighting Poland symbols displayed on PHN properties will be a sign of our remembrance of the heroism of all the people who fought and sacrificed their lives in the struggle against the German occupier,”said Marcin Mazurek, President of the Management Board of Polski Holding Nieruchomości S.A.

The sign in which the letter P stands for Poland, and W-shaped arms mean fight (“walka” in Polish) or an anchor, became a symbol of hope for regaining independence that was widely used during the Second World War. Warsaw Uprising broke out on August 1, 1944 at 5 p.m. and was the largest military effort undertaken by the underground resistance in German-occupied Europe. During the uneven 63-day battle, around 16,000 Polish soldiers died and between 150,000 and 200,000 civilian residents of the capital were killed. Most of the buildings on the left bank of Warsaw were also destroyed.
